How would you describe your music style, in non-technical terms?
Deep, dark, and sultry house and techno that makes you move, feel, and forget about work tomorrow.
How and why did you decide to become a DJ?
I can't honestly give you a rational answer to this lol. I was at a warehouse rave in 96' and I had an epiphany. I remember looking up at the DJ and thinking "I need to do that" So, I did. I saved up money and my mom pitched in for the rest and I got a Numark DJ in a box kit (all purple with belt driven turntables) on my 16th bday 6 months later. I never looked back.
Tell us a bit about your fans.
I have great fans!! They are all over the country, with a majority in LA and NYC. Twitter has helped me reach people world wide and I have had visitors from all over the world come out to hear me play. I am fortunate to always have a strong and loyal team of people out to support me when I play. Almost every time I play both in NY and LA I meet new people that I don't know that went out just to hear me play... and after all the years of work I've put in, this is the best reward. I work hard to maintain a fan base and invest a lot of time in personalized social media and promotions.
All-time favorite track(s)?
Nervous Acid. It was on a white label. OG nitrous track lol. Probably came out 90-93 I'd guess. I have a copy. Have no idea at this point where I even found it! Second favorite is Metro Area 4.. I almost DIED when I found this record. I bought it online on GEMM.com from someone in Amsterdam never saw another copy for sale
What is your favorite festival, why?
Lightning in a Bottle... I have been going for the past 5 or 6 years. I like the way the Do Lab builds their stages. I love their weekend long artist instillation where artists start at least one painting at the beginning of the festival and you get to watch it progress to the end of the festival at which time they auction them off for charity. I love the camping and the different activities around the festival like archery and mediation workshops. And most of all I love the different selections of music.
Funniest/weirdest thing that ever happened during a gig?
I remember Djing a rave at the Fox Theatre in Pomona, Ca. The hardcore room was in the bathroom (as usual). I remembered smelling something burning and there was smoke coming from the amp. Mind you I wasn't running the system hot. The room was packed and there was no sound guy. The music could not shut off... so, I would mix a record and then fan the amp with a record to cool it off, lol I did this my whole set and survived! didn't stick around to see what happened after.
